Heard about Software as a service (SaaS), Platform as a service (PaaS), and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) in IT world! Did you ever hear about CaaS? Read this New Challenge & Opportunity in Pandemic Remote Working World!

 Dear Friends and Students

Workplace Management is threading into an interesting phenomenon!

Long Remote Meetings, Laptops next to Gas burners in the Kitchen, Customer calls amid screams of children, convincing the subordinates/reportees/managers while fighting with the spouse, professional suit for the passport size portion of the individual, Artificial smiles during screen capture (proof for meeting), breakfast during lunch, and naps during the session. This laundry list is continuous!

Now you might be wondering, what is the connection between Saas, PaaS and IaaS and these issues. What is this new term CaaS in the Software World?

First let me give you brief about SaaS, PaaS and IaaS.

Software as a service (SaaS) means software availability via a third party over the internet. Simple example: Google Apps, Slack, Payment Gateways, etc.

Platform as a service (PaaS) means hardware and software tools available over the internet. Example: Amazon Web Services, Window’s Azure, Heroku, etc.

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) means cloud-based services, pay-as-you-go for services such as storage, networking, and virtualization. E.g. Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, Rackspace, Google Compute Engine (GCE), Digital Ocean, etc.

Now what is this CaaS?

It is called Culture as a Service (CaaS)! Thanks to pandemic, workplace is completely operating remote. They are managing operations somehow, but they are struggling to uphold the spirit of the company and culture of an organization. They are unable to induct the shared vision due to this remote and scattered working. This is huge HR’s concern.

“According to a survey conducted by the company, 57% of employees “feel less connected to their organization’s goals” since the coronavirus pandemic took hold while more than half feel their work achievements are noticed less by higher-ups since moving to remote work”--- This statistic and feeling is a cause of worry!!

Now companies have realized the importance of brining the culture. They are resorting to additional software tools beyond Zoom, Teams, Google Meet and Slack, which can induct Culture as a Service.

Many startups started working in building such software- New age tool in HR Tech!

One such software is workvivo: Employee communication platform to excite, engage and connect your entire company. It combines the power of a social network, intranet, and employee app into one familiar digital experience that employees love. It is creating a Digital Experience that brings Workplace Culture to Life! It is a social intranet brings the company culture to life.

Microsoft also launched another platform called Microsoft Viva!-“Breathe life into work”. It says, “People aren’t one-dimensional productivity machines. We are unique, complex, and full of life—and that does not change at work. It is time to reimagine employee experience, creating work cultures that embrace our differences and empower people and teams to be their best”.

New Challenges bring New Opportunities! However, core of the issue is Culture, which is indispensable.

*Don’t Quit! Palm Tree Fell but Refused to Die! But it Teaches Lifelessons!!! Read this Interesting Perspective!*

Dear Friends and Students

Please look at the Picture! This palm tree fell down, refused to die, made its way right up!! Before appreciating its FIGHT BACK nature, lets understand its constitution.

Palm tree takes 4-6 years to grow from seed to its highest. They grow 4-6 feet per year. Some palm trees live 70-100+ years or beyond! In fact, you can uproot them, may be 15-18 inches of rootball and can be transported them. Some of them can survive hurricanes as well.

In fact in some cultures, The Palm Is a Symbol of Life (e.g. Syrian). Few Palms can be dangerous as well (e.g. The fruits of many palms, such as coconuts and dates, are delicious. Others, such as sago, are poisonous to humans and animals).

I would like to share an interesting perspective here. I am not 100% sure but I read it somewhere. After the hurricane in Puerto Rico, coconut bearing palms had mostly fallen while the non-coconut ones hadn’t. You know the reason? Coconut bearing one wasn’t native to the Caribbean. It is Indian in origin! A tree of certain region cannot survive extremes in another region. This is one good lesson humans to learn from Nature!

Look at this picture! Nature is stronger than we think. It is a great example to thrive! Covid-19 shattered many lives!

Wave 1 created Fear!

Wave 2 created Unrest!

Wave 3 adds up Hunger too, if we don’t handle it diligently. Now it is going to hard hit on Employment! Business houses got closed for long time. Regular income streams got stopped. However, this palm tree is living example to survive! A big thank you to the house owner and photographer! Every Covid-19 Victim (Health/Financial/Psychological Victim) should look at this picture and revive!

*Don’t Quit*

In Search of Gold, We Lot Diamonds. Read this Interesting Perspective of Globe and Human Life!

Dear Students and Friends

Quantum Physics Facebook channel published the above picture. I am sure the context might be from the Physics and Celestial perspective. However, I feel it has much deeper meaning and understanding than mere cosmic view.

Gold Rush View: People are on migratory path and moving towards green pastures! Here I am not saying anything right or wrong. Nevertheless, we do not know whether we are losing diamonds or gaining gold.

Climate Change View: Yesterday I received a WhatsApp message from someone, “Glacier in Northern Italy covered with tarpaulins to slow melting”! They are covering the glacier with geotextile tarpaulin, which is having function of reflecting the sunlight. In Northern Italy, the Presena Glacier has lost more than one third of its volume since 1993!

Where are we heading in terms of Global warming? Earth is a mustard seed in this universe! Human greed and so-called development is warming the Earth!

Forest Cover Loss View: Around 17% of the forest in the Amazon has been lost in the last 50 years! Surprisingly, even remote areas are encroached for timber, gold, and oil in Amazon! Deforestation and forest degradation are responsible for ~15% of all greenhouse gas emissions (worldwildlife.org)!

Sand Cover Loss View: India’s construction boom is stripping large volumes of sand from its rivers. Environmentalists are warning the extraction is unsustainable, harming local hydrology and wildlife.

It is highly critical and important to preserve the Nature; else, consequences are going to be grave!

In Search of Gold, We Lot Diamonds! This is highly philosophical!

Think before Act!

Successive Lockdowns-Sedentary Lifestyle-Long Screen time- Impacted Children’s Health and Cognitive skills, A French Study! Read this Perspective!!

Dear Friends and Students

Successive Lockdowns are doing all kinds of havoc. French study warns it as “Catastrophic”! This specific study was on 90 students (7-8-year-old kids), comparing their behavior in September 2019 -  before France’s first lockdown -  and then in September 2020.

Results

  • - Body Mass Index (BMI) increased by an average of 2 to 3 points
  • - Sporty children with no health or weight problems have put on 5 to 10 kg
  • - Children’s cognitive skills had diminished by up to 40 percent in some cases (Test: schoolchildren finished tests linking letters to corresponding numbers within a given time in Sep 2019, but in 2020, many did not)
  • -  Many students  are not meeting the World Health Organization's recommendation of 60 minutes of daily physical exercise
  • -  Can lead to the onset of chronic diseases such as diabetes/high blood pressure in long term.

In another study in UK, (acamh.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/jcv2.12009), there were increases in caseness (measures of depression and anxiety) for emotion, conduct and hyperactivity/inattention (18.64%, 35.10% and 20.36% change, respectively);

This Lockdown Impact story is something like Surprise and Suspense Thriller Movie! What is the difference between Surprise and Suspense?

Surprise is when two people are sitting in a coffee shop and a bomb goes off under the table;

Suspense is when we see a man place a bomb under the table and watch the two people meet to have coffee.

In the first case the public got fifteen seconds of surprise moment of the explosion.

In the second public got fifteen minutes of suspense.

Last 2 months we are witnessing multiple deaths, black fungus, white fungus, etc. This has become daily story. This is the Suspense part of the Lockdown. However, Kids Health study results is a Surprise part! Kids are made to sit in the homes with lot of difficulty. The very purpose is to protect from the external Virus. However, the sedentary lifestyle has totally surprised, esp. Cognitive side!!

Parents,

Can you keep an eye on cognitive skills? Health is visible part of them problem, but Cognition is non-visible problem. Once it is lost for 2 years, revival becomes hard.

Rise Cognitive Tests for Kids at Home!!
