Dear Friends and Students
Workplace
Management is threading into an interesting phenomenon!
Long Remote Meetings, Laptops next to Gas
burners in the Kitchen, Customer calls amid screams of children, convincing the
subordinates/reportees/managers while fighting with the spouse, professional
suit for the passport size portion of the individual, Artificial smiles during screen
capture (proof for meeting), breakfast during lunch, and naps during the
session. This laundry list is continuous!
Now you might be wondering, what is the connection
between Saas, PaaS and IaaS and these issues. What is this new term CaaS in the
Software World?
First let me give you brief about SaaS, PaaS
and IaaS.
Software as a service (SaaS) means software
availability via a third party over the internet. Simple example: Google Apps,
Slack, Payment Gateways, etc.
Platform as a service (PaaS) means hardware
and software tools available over the internet. Example: Amazon Web Services,
Window’s Azure, Heroku, etc.
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) means
cloud-based services, pay-as-you-go for services such as storage, networking,
and virtualization. E.g. Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, Rackspace, Google Compute
Engine (GCE), Digital Ocean, etc.
Now what is this CaaS?
It is called Culture as a Service (CaaS)!
Thanks to pandemic, workplace is completely operating remote. They are managing
operations somehow, but they are struggling to uphold the spirit of the company
and culture of an organization. They are unable to induct the shared vision due
to this remote and scattered working. This is huge HR’s concern.
“According to a survey conducted by the
company, 57% of employees “feel less connected to their organization’s goals”
since the coronavirus pandemic took hold while more than half feel their work
achievements are noticed less by higher-ups since moving to remote work”---
This statistic and feeling is a cause of worry!!
Now companies have realized the importance of
brining the culture. They are resorting to additional software tools beyond
Zoom, Teams, Google Meet and Slack, which can induct Culture as a Service.
Many startups started working in building such
software- New age tool in HR Tech!
One such software is workvivo: Employee
communication platform to excite, engage and connect your entire company. It combines
the power of a social network, intranet, and employee app into one familiar
digital experience that employees love. It is creating a Digital
Experience that brings Workplace Culture to Life! It is a social intranet brings
the company culture to life.
Microsoft also launched another platform called
Microsoft Viva!-“Breathe
life into work”. It says, “People aren’t one-dimensional productivity machines.
We are unique, complex, and full of life—and that does not change at work. It
is time to reimagine employee experience, creating work cultures that embrace
our differences and empower people and teams to be their best”.
New Challenges bring New Opportunities! However,
core of the issue is Culture, which is indispensable.
